For Pleasantrees, we designed several retail store concepts inside and out. The Midwest Common team also helped develop the sales experience to clearly showcase key products and brand story.
The first Pleasantrees store in East Lansing, MI is a former dental office that was converted into an open, modern retail environment in collaboration with Iannuzzi Architecture Studio. The heavily wooded and contoured site has several mature trees, and our primary response was to dissolve the interior/exterior barrier and bring the outdoor ambiance into the small space.
With limited square footage and the need for as much retail floor as possible, we opened up the facade and extended the roof plane to create a simple and inviting entry patio that becomes a canvas for the changing seasons.
The warm, rich interior palette consists of white oak fixtures, walnut floors, grasscloth wallpaper, glazed terra-cotta tile, 17’ marble countertop, and custom lighting throughout.
Other store concepts were developed with a non-traditional retail experience in mind. These spaces were designed to fit the needs of the store teams, collaborators, and the greater community.
